PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a radio communication system capable of preventing waste of a wireless resource by reducing power consumption of a radio terminal. SOLUTION: This radio communication system includes this radio terminal for performing intermittent reception by an anchor carrier, and this base station for allocating a frequency band to the radio terminal and notifying an intermittent reception parameter. The base station includes a control section 13 for generating scheduling information of data addressed to the radio terminal, and an intermittent transmission control device 15 for transmitting the scheduling information based on the intermittent reception parameter. The control section 13 transmits data in a frequency band other than an anchor area after the transmission of the scheduling information. The radio terminal includes an intermittent reception control section for halting the reception process in the frequency band other than the anchor carrier during intermittent reception, changing over the intermittent reception to normal reception when receiving the scheduling information of the own terminal by the anchor carrier, and starting the reception process in the frequency band other than the anchor carrier.
