The present invention discloses a method and device for generating a pre-coding matrix codebook. A method for generating the pre-coding matrix codebook used in a multi-antenna communication system includes: a) determining an initial pre-coding matrix codebook composed of L pre-coding matrixes; b) dividing a channel set into L channel groups corresponding respectively to the pre-coding matrixes in the initial pre-coding matrix codebook; c) choosing the pre-coding matrix best matching each channel group from a set of the pre-coding matrixes, so as to form a new pre-coding matrix codebook; d) judging whether the initial pre-coding matrix codebook is the same as the new pre-coding matrix codebook or not; e) if not, then taking the new pre-coding matrix codebook as the initial pre-coding matrix codebook, and jumping to the step b); and if yes, then taking the new pre-coding matrix codebook as the pre-coding matrix codebook to be used in the multi-antenna communication system.
