PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shot peening apparatus and method, involving no risk of dust explosion resulting from the generation of a spark and dust, reducing wear of a shot outlet, and offering highly stable machining capacity and safety. SOLUTION: The shot peening apparatus uses a water flow to make shots collide against an object, wherein a chamber containing the shots is disposed on the object and a drain slit having a width of 0.05-0.9 times the diameter of each shot is provided between the chamber and the object.
