PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method suitable for characteristics adjustment on a color image producing device such as printer and display, and to provide a system therefor. SOLUTION: In order to update a forward color conversion means (10) containing a face portion forward parametric color conversion means and a remained forward nonparametric color conversion means, the color characterization method includes, a step that the parametric color conversion means is changed adaptively based on a color input value for adaptation and a set of measurement data (20, 26), a step that a set of a color estimation value data conforming to a second space is generated using the change result and a nonparametric color conversion means (32), a step that a set of color estimation error value data conforming to the second color space is produced based on the generation result and a set of color input value data for adaptation (34), a step that a forward color conversion means utilizing a film is generated based on the generation result (36), and a step that the forward color conversion means is updated using the nonparametric color conversion means and parametric color conversion means of changed version (40).
