PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gelling agent of a lipid histidine, forming gel in a wide pH region, especially even in a neutral region in a liquid factor region of from weakly acidic to alkaline, in wide solvents such as water, an alcohol, an aqueous solution, an alcoholic aqueous solution, an organic solvent and a mixed solvent of the organic solvent and water; to provide a gelling agent for forming hydrogel having high environmental-/bio-compatibility and biodegradability; to provide the gelling agent of the lipid histidine for forming various kinds of mixed solvent gel; and to provide a fiber formed by self-assembly of the gelling agent; and the gel constituted of the gelling agent and a solvent, or the fiber and a solvent. SOLUTION: The gelling agent comprises the lipid histidine represented by formula (1) (wherein, R<SP>1</SP>is a 9-19C aliphatic group which is saturated or has one unsaturated bond; and the histidine part is an optically active histidine of L or R), or a pharmaceutically usable salt thereof.
