Disclosed is a method for producing a glass film, which comprises: a first step wherein an inorganic thin film is formed on the surface of a supporting glass so that the surface roughness (Ra) after the film formation is not more than 2.0 nm; a second step wherein a glass film having a surface roughness (Ra) of not more than 2.0 nm is laminated such that the glass film is in contact with the surface of the inorganic thin film, thereby forming a glass film laminate; a third step wherein the glass film laminate is subjected to a treatment that involves heating; and a fourth step wherein the glass film is separated from the supporting glass after the treatment that involves heating.
