<p>The invention inter alia relates to a substation device (20, 21, 22, 23, 26) for a substation (10) of an electric power supply system, wherein said substation device is configured to use device-dependent physical addresses (PA1-PA6) for communication with other substation devices of said substation, and wherein said substation device comprises a processing module for processing the data content of messages. According to an embodiment of the invention, said substation device further comprises an address translating module (40) for translating said device-dependent physical addresses into device-independent virtual addresses (VA1-VA5) and vice versa.
