摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily observe a subject transparent and fine as a cell, with high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: The observation apparatus 1 includes: an optical crystal 6 having a mounting surface 6a for mounting a sample A; a first irradiation system 4 for emitting first electromagnetic waves L<SB>2</SB>toward the optical crystal 6 from the side opposite to the mounting surface 6a; a second irradiation system 5 for emitting second electromagnetic waves L<SB>1</SB>; and a detection system 7 for detecting the second electromagnetic waves L<SB>1</SB>emitted from the second irradiation system 5 and reflected on the mounting surface 6a for the sample A. The first electromagnetic waves L<SB>2</SB>are pulsed terahertz waves. The second electromagnetic waves L<SB>1</SB>are pulsed electromagnetic waves having a wavelength shorter than that of the terahertz waves L<SB>2</SB>. The first irradiation system 4 and the second irradiation system 5 are arranged in such a manner that at least part of the irradiation region of the first electromagnetic waves L<SB>2</SB>and the irradiation region of the second electromagnetic waves L<SB>1</SB>overlap each other in the vicinity of the mounting surface 6a in the optical crystal 6.
