The device has a modification unit (31) provided for spatial modification in an effective area of a high frequency electromagnetic alternating field. The unit for spatial modification of the high frequency electromagnetic alternating field is designed as an electrical conductor loop, which has no independent current supply. The unit for spatial modification of the high frequency electromagnetic alternating field exhibits adjustable capacitive and/or ohmic resistors. The electrical conductor loop works depending upon application in working or standby modes. An independent claim is also included for a method for manipulating a levitated electrically conductive substance.
