The appliance has a cooking chamber limiting unit (14) limiting a cooking chamber (10) that includes a rear wall and is closed by a door (16). A cooking chamber element (12) is height-adjusted by a height adjusting device (36) in the cooking chamber. The adjusting device includes guide units (38, 40) that are arranged in a central region of the rear wall of the limiting unit. The adjusting device includes a sensor unit for sensing a height position of the cooking chamber element, where each guide unit has a guide surface (46) that is arranged partially at an outer side of the limiting unit.
