PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a password matching device and method that take the convenience of an operator having a legitimate authority into consideration while securing password security. SOLUTION: If an input value does not match a registered password, the value of a false input that has been input last time is compared with the input value to see whether they match (S304); if they match, only a user is notified via a personal computer 101 that authentication has been unsuccessful (S305), while the registered password is not revoked.
