DAMPING DEVICE AND DISK DRIVE EQUIPPED WITH DAMPING DEVICE

Existing disk drives were provided with a means for adding a passive auxiliary mass as a damping measure against disturbances generating from an imbalance in the center of gravity of a disk. With this method, the auxiliary mass had to be increased in order to maintain damping performance, which created a problem of larger disk drives. The active movement of an auxiliary mass (300) by means of an auxiliary mass drive unit (360) is featured. The auxiliary mass (300) is driven by amplifying a signal that corresponds to the force transmitted to the auxiliary mass (300) from a main frame unit (100). As a result, even a small auxiliary mass (300) achieves damping effects that are equal to cases in which a large auxiliary mass has been added.
