Disclosed are: a liquid crystalline compound having stability to heat, light and the like, capable of forming a nematic phase in a broad temperature range, and having a low viscosity, high optical anisotropy, a proper elastic constant (K33), high negative dielectric anisotropy, and excellent compatibility with other liquid crystalline compounds; a liquid crystal composition containing the compound; and a liquid crystal display element comprising the composition. The liquid crystalline compound is represented by formula (1-1). In the formula, R1 and R2 independently represent, for example, an alkenyl group having 2 to 10 carbon atoms; the ring A1 represents, for example, trans-1,4-cyclohexylene; L1 and L2 independently represent a hydrogen or fluorine atom, wherein at least one of L1 and L2 represents a fluorine atom; and Z1, Z2 and Z3 independently represent, for example, a single bond. |
