PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To allow a print medium to be passed through a space between a print head and a platen without imparting any impact to a thick portion even if the print medium has the thick portion. SOLUTION: A printer includes a conveying path 6 for conveying a seal 14, a thickness detecting unit 8 configured to detect change in thickness of the seal 14 along the conveying direction, which is conveyed along the conveying path 6, a printing means having a first print unit 10 configured to print information on one surface side of the seal 14 whose thickness change is detected by the thickness detecting unit 8, and a second print unit 11 configured to print information on the other surface side of the seal 14, while the first and second print units 10, 11 consist of a platen roller 17 and a thermal head 16 opposite to each other via the conveying path 6, a pressure mechanism 25 configured to press the thermal head 16 against the platen roller 17 of each of the first and second print units 10, 11, and a control unit 35 configured to variably control the pressure of the pressure mechanism 25 based on thickness information detected by the thickness detecting unit 8.
