PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost fibrous adsorbent made from polyvinyl alcohol for adsorbing metal that has excellent capability of adsorbing metal and can easily be produced and handled, and moreover can efficiently adsorb heavy metal elements from a liquid to be treated wherein salts and organic materials are contained at a high concentration. SOLUTION: The fibrous adsorbent made from polyvinyl alcohol for adsorbing metal having high metal-adsorption efficiency is easily produced at a low cost by spinning a polyvinyl alcohol dope solution comprising a polyamine-type polymer compound comprising a chelating functional group capable of forming a complex with a variety of metal species using a wet or dry spinning method to form a fiber, and subsequently stretching, heat-treating, and formalating the resulting fiber.
