PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate the vehicle speed accurately under all the road environments regardless of any road circumstances. SOLUTION: The speed calculating device detects the accelerationαzin the Z-axis direction generated by an undulation of the travel surface and the pitch rateωyaround the Y-axis generated by an undulation of the travel surface respectively using a triaxial acceleration sensor 4 and a Y-axis gyro sensor 5, and calculates a speed V using the accelerationαzand pitch rateωyto further correct the speed V in accordance with the speed, thereby allowing the speed V accurately under all the road environments to be calculated.
