PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a back glass substrate for a flat panel display with a rib partition, in which the size of one side of one pixel cell lowers 0.1 mm, with high precision. SOLUTION: In the method, a frit glass is molded by using a metal frame provided with a shape transferred with the rib partition pattern shape of a rib-fitted back glass substrate, the molded frit glass is subjected to vacuum firing for at least one time in the order of normal pressure firing/vacuum firing/normal pressure firing so as to be a rib-fitted back glass substrate-shaped article, and the rib-shaped back glass substrate-shaped article is subjected to thermomechanical treatment under normal pressure so as to produce a rib-fitted back glass substrate. The annealing and thermomechanical treatment can be performed in a state where the frit glass is packed into the metal form if the atmosphere is a nonoxidizing gas substitution atmosphere.
