An electronic device having a first and second functional state, the device comprising a receiver configured to receive signalling, a processor, one or more hardware components that are able to provide a one or more functions, and memory having one or more identification codes stored thereon. A first set of functions selected from the one or more functions are available for use in the first state, and a second set of functions are available for use in the second state. The processor is configured to process received signalling in accordance with the identification codes in order to determine an intended state of the device, and to set the state of the device in accordance with the determined intended state.
