A bale stacking trailer comprises a frame 10 on wheels 12, 14, may be hitched to a tractor by a shaft 18 and powered from the tractor power take-off through a drive shaft 20. A conventional pick-up bale loader 34 feeds bales to the entrance of a channel 36 along which they are fed by a fork 54 moved in a cyclic path by a driven crank 50 and guide 56 to form a row. When the row is completed. the leading bale thereof contacts a feeler 82 actuating mechanism to move the side 72 on pairs of parallel links 64, 74 and 66, 76 a channel width to shift the row sideways on to a floor plate 98 covering the bottom of the trailer. During this motion a plate 68 blocks the loader 34. Successive rows of bales are fed to the plate 98 and when the plate is covered by a complete layer a feeler 128, Fig. 4, is contacted by the leading row and actuates mechanism to lift the layer into a cage 136, see Fig. 1, where it is retained by the arch introduced by the shape of the plate 98. The plate 98 is then lowered to its original position. Successive layers are similarly fed into the cage 136 until it is fully loaded. The cage 136 may be swung to the side of the trailer, see Fig. 4, for unloading, on levers 152, 154 operated by hydraulic jacks 164, 166. |
