Phytosterol mixture from plant seeds

A mixture of phyrosterols, useful in arterial and glandular therapy and also in cosmetology, may be isolated from the unsaponifiable fraction of the oil in seeds of various Apocyanaces found in tropical Africa. The product is prepd. by extracting the seeds with petroleum ether, washing with aqs. NaCl and NaHCO3, saponifying with KOH and finally extracting again with an ether-ethanol mixture. The product may be administered without separation into the component phytosterols.
