An illumination and laser source comprises an illumination source (36) having an output of illumination light, a first lens (42) capable of collimating a portion of said illumination light into a collimated illumination light path (11), a laser light source having an output of laser light (14), said laser light (14) collimated to form a collimated laser beam (22) within said collimated illumination light path (11) and a second lens (58) capable of focusing said collimated illumination light (11) and said collimated laser beam (22) onto an optical fiber (60).
