Sewage treatment process, for small - scale use

Chemical treatment of water, esp. sewage purification, comprises electrolytic introduction into soln. of metal ions (e.g. Fe, Al or Mg ions), which can precipitate impurities, e.g. soluble P, using d.c. or natural p.d. between 2 different metals (e.g. Fe/Cu or Fe/Ag). Liquid to be treated is used as electrolyte and relevant metal as electrode(s). Process can be used to recover plant nutrients. It is simpler and more practical than earlier methods and esp. useful for small scale plants, since little extra equipment is required and plant operates reliably.
