Metal effect pigment with additive, which: is at least partially applied to the metallic effect pigment; and includes at least one carboxylic acid with at least 4C, as structure units and at least one polyglycolether, where the carboxylic acid and polyglycol are covalently linked together, is claimed. An independent claim is included for the metal effect pigment comprising (a) pulverizing metal particle of metal effect pigment in the presence of additive, and grinding media and optionally a fluid phase; (b) separating the product obtained in step (a); and (c) optionally compacting separated product in step (b).
