PURPOSE: A method and device for executing a function of a portable terminal are provided to simplify an entrance procedure for executing a specific function and to improve user accessibility and convenience with regards to using a portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: Event execution by a target item and a selected item are sensed(205). Text information of a selected item is parsed by responding to the event execution(211). Information corresponding to a type of a target item is extracted from the parsed text information. A specific function of a target item is executed by corresponding to the text information(213). A sensing process senses an input of a user gesture which combines the selected item with the target item.
