Immunogens from uropathogenic escherichia coli

Disclosed herein is a gene that can be included in immunogenic compositions specific for pathogenic E. coli strains. The gene is from uropathogenic strains but is absent from non-pathogenic strains, and its encoded protein has cellular locations which render it accessible to the immune system.
