The workstation (2) comprises a spinning rotor (10) for spinning threads (7), an electric motor for propelling the spinning rotor, and a power supply unit for supplying the supply voltage. The electric motor is operated as generator during failure of the supply voltage. An electric control unit (16a) is provided for inputting electrical energy to a thread take-off unit (16). An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a workstation.
