PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method thereof for reducing the power consumption in order to solve the electric power consumption problem in a standby state are provided to control the operation of sensors which determine the state of the portable terminal. CONSTITUTION: A state determining unit(104) independently includes an application processing unit to control an application. The state determining unit is woken up in a standby state. The state determining unit determines the state of a portable terminal. In case the portable terminal escapes a standby state, the state determining unit wakes up the application processing unit. The application processing unit sleeps at specific interval.
