Copper-complex reactive dyes of monoazo dyes which have the general formula in which X is a fibre reactive group which reacts with the hydroxyl groups in cellulose to form a covalent bond and which is preferably a heterocyclic residue are prepared by metallizing a monoazo dye as above or by acylating a copper complex of a dye as above in which X is H or by oxidative coppering of a dyestuff in which X is a fibre reactive group. Fibre reactive groups of the heterocyclic series include, phthalazine, pyridazine, quinazoline, quinonaline, oxazole, thiazole and especially a triazine group of formula in which Z is a hydrogen atom, an amino group which may be substituted, an etherified hydroxy or mercapto group or a halogen atom or an alkyl, aryl or aralkyl group. The halogen atoms may be bromine but are preferably chlorine. Those dyes in which Z is other than a halogen atom may be prepared by replacement of a halogen atom from e.g. cyanuric chloride and reacting with an appropriate compound. The dyes are particularly used in cellulosic materials.
