A granular washing agent comprises particles of an organic detergent and an alkali metal polyphosphate, preferably obtained by spray drying, which are coated wholly or partly with a crystalline mixture comprising 40% to 80% wt. of sodium perborate tetrahydrate and 20% to 60% wt. of sodium sulphate decahydrate. The coating mixture may contain 0.1% to 3% of a non-ionic detergent e.g. an ethoxylated alkylphenol, and/or an alkali metal salt of a benzene-, toluene- or xylene-sulphonic acid. The organic detergent may be anionic e.g. a sulphate or sulphonate detergent or an alkali metal soap of a fatty acid, an ampholyte such as an alkyl betaine, and/or non-ionic e.g. fatty acid alkanolamide. The polyphosphates may be pentasodium triphosphate, pentapotassium triphosphate or a mixture thereof. Optional ingredients to the particles to be coated are (a) tri- or poly-metaphosphates; (b) alkali metal silicates; (c) stabilizers e.g. magnesium silicate; (d) sequestering agents e.g. alkali metal salts of aminopolycarboxylic acids; (e) foam stabilizers e.g. fatty acid mono- and di-alkylolamides; (f) foam inhibitors; (g) greying inhibitors e.g. sodium cellulose glycollate; (h) enzymes e.g. catalase; (i) optical brighteners; (j) disinfectants, dyestuffs and perfumes. The molten mixture of coating salts (fused in their own water of crystallization) is sprayed on to the particles to be coated at 32.4‹ to 60‹ C. and preferably 35-50‹ C. |
