PURPOSE: An auxiliary brake unit for a vehicle is provided to enable a driver to cope with an emergency rapidly and safely since the auxiliary brake unit consists of a bidirectional electrical motor and a pressure unit using both brake shoes of a main brake unit. CONSTITUTION: An auxiliary brake unit for a vehicle comprises a brake drum(1), linings(11), a brake shoe(12), and a wheel cylinder(2). The brake drum is connected to a tire wheel. The linings respectively are arranged on both sides of the inner circumferential surface of the brake drum at a certain gap. The lower end of the brake shoe is hinge(13)-coupled into the brake drum. The lining is coupled to the outer surface of the brake shoe. The wheel cylinder is connected to the upper end of the brake shoe. The wheel cylinder rotates the brake and the lining on the hinge so that the brake shoe and the lining face.
