PURPOSE: A method and a system for controlling a multimedia session using IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem) are provided to control a session by transmitting a control command form a server to a terminal. CONSTITUTION: A session control system using an IMS includes a service providing server(100), a control server(200), a user terminal(300), and a content providing server(400). The control server includes a control command generating unit(210), an encoding unit(220), and a control message generating unit(230). The user terminal comprises a control message processing unit(310), a decoder(320), a control command processing unit(330) and a session controlling unit(340). A content providing server searches the content required from the user terminal and provides the searched content to the user terminal.
