An air precleaner (10) includes a base assembly (12), a hood (18) mounted to the base assembly (12) and spaced from the base assembly (12) to define a circumferential gap (63), and a rotor assembly (20) mounted for rotation within the air space between the hood (18) and base assembly (12). The base assembly (12) has an outlet port (16) that is connectable to an engine intake. Inlet ports (14) may be formed between web supports (28) connecting an outer circumferential wall (22) to an inner circumferential wall (24) of the base assembly (12). A series of vanes (64) are mounted in the gap between the hood (18) and base assembly (12) at an angle between radial and tangential to define channels between them through which air is directed into the air space between the hood (18) and base assembly (12) with both an inward and tangential component of velocity impacting upon the rotor (20) to maintain high efficiency of particulate removal. |
