A refrigerated display case comprises a stationary section incorporating air circulating means, and a movable section which includes supports for goods to be refrigerated and is engageable with the stationary section to define, at least in part, a portion of the path for air moved by the circulating means. As shown, the stationary section comprises a rear wall 11 and end walls 12A, an air supply duct 14, a fan 16, an evaporator 18, an outlet nozzle 20 and a discharge duct 19 having outlets 21. The movable section comprises a hollow base 31 which receives air from outlets 20, 21 via inlets 38 and, when in engagement with seals 25 on the stationary section, supplies the air to the inlet 15 of duct 14. The base supports upright 33 having shelf brackets 34, and is provided with wheels 32 which may be guided by runners 43 secured to the floor. The case may be symmetrical about the axis of duct 14 so as to provide an identical display area on the other side of the duct, (Fig. 5, not shown) and the shelf supporting structure may be provided with wheels or be otherwise removable from the base 31, (Fig. 6, not shown). In a modification, (Fig. 3, not shown), the case is open-topped and the movable section comprises a hollow front wall with air inlets at its top, and a solid base beneath which the air from the front wall flows to the duct in the stationary section. In a further modification, (Fig. 4, not shown), the stationary section includes the front as well as the rear and end walls of the case, one of the end walls being hinged to allow insertion and removal of the movable section. Air from the display area returns to the duet in the stationary section via a gap between the movable section and the front wall, and the space between the movable section and the floor. |
