PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surgical portal apparatus adapted to permit the introduction of surgical instrumentation into a patient's body in sealing engagement therewith. SOLUTION: The surgical portal apparatus includes: a portal which is dimensioned for insertion within tissue to access an underlying tissue site; at least one seal which is disposed in mechanical cooperation with the portal and defines a passage for reception of a surgical object in substantial sealed relation therewith; a plurality of restricting members which are arranged about the longitudinal axis; and a lockout assembly which includes a locking member disposed distal of the restricting members.
