<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a planar array fuel cell in which spaces between cells can be narrowed, while suppressing short-circuiting among the cells. <P>SOLUTION: In the fuel cell, membrane electrode assemblies are formed at openings provided in a substrate 14, and each membrane electrode assembly includes an electrolyte membrane 22, an anode catalyst layer 24, and a cathode catalyst layer 26.
