PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device applicable to an application used by an accelerometer in cooperation with software executable in a computer.

SOLUTION: In the method and the device for operating a portable device based on the accelerometer, the accelerometer attached to the portable device detects the movement of the portable device. In response thereto, a machine executable code is executed in the portable device so as to perform one or more prescribed user configurable operations.
