A wireless communication apparatus and a wireless communication method are provided wherein, even without using any additional antennas, the reliability of transmitted data can be enhanced and/or the transmission rate can be increased. The wireless communication apparatus comprises a plurality of communication terminals each of which has a MIMO function compliant with a given radio standard and each of which is capable of communicating with a base station having the MIMO function. One of the plurality of communication terminals is a master communication terminal, while the other one or more of the plurality of communication terminals are slave communication terminals each of which is connected to the master communication terminal via a given connection means. It is arranged that some or all of the signal processing functions related to the transmissions/receptions using one or more antennas incorporated in each of the one or more slave communication terminals be controlled by the master communication terminal, thereby arbitrarily increasing the number of antennas to be used and that the protocol for a call connection be implemented only between the base station and the master communication terminal. |
