PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an underwater detection device and a kind-of-fish discrimination method for determining the kind of fish swimming in the water. SOLUTION: The envelope of a reflection signal from a simple fish is roughly divided into a reflected wave from its air bladder whose intensity of reflection is the highest, and reflected waves from the parts other than the bladder. By paying attention to the matter that the reflected waves from the parts other than the air bladder are different depending on the kind of the fish, the kind of the fish of a detection object is discriminated on the basis of information on a peak having the largest amplitude value of the envelope detected from the reflection signal of the detection object, and a peak existing before and after the peak.
