PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress decrease in display quality due to the influences of a lateral electric field. SOLUTION: A liquid crystal panel 100 includes a liquid crystal element, having a liquid crystal 105 held by a pixel electrode 118 formed on an element substrate 100a and a common electrode 108 formed on a counter substrate 100b. A video processing circuit 30 detects, in a normally black mode, the boundary between dark pixels where an applied voltage to the liquid crystal element, corresponding to the grayscale level designated by a video signal Vid-in is lower than a threshold Vth1 and bright pixels, where the voltage is equal to or over a threshold Vth2; and when the voltage applied to a dark pixel adjacent to the detected boundary is lower than a voltage Vc, the video processing circuit replaces the applied voltage to the dark pixel, the applied voltage corresponding to the grayscale level designated by the video signal by the voltage Vc.
