PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a footstep device for an escalator, which prevents an overturning accident caused by placing feet over front-rear two footsteps, when an escalator user gets on the escalator from a boarding-alighting port on the landing hall side. SOLUTION: This footstep device of the escalator has a plurality of footsteps 4 connected in an endless shape and circularly moving between the boarding-alighting ports 2 and 3 positioned on upper-lower stories, a tread 8 arranged on the individual footsteps 4 and placing the feet of the escalator user, a movable body 12 arranged on the tip side or the rear end side in the moving direction in the individual footsteps 4 and movable to a projecting position projecting upward from the tread 8 and a storage position entering the lower side from the tread 8, and an actuator 16 for moving the movable body 12 positioned in the storage position to the projecting position when the footsteps 4 pass through the lower side of a boarding-alighting plate 5 arranged in the boarding-alighting port 2 on the landing hall side.
