PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface-coated cutting tool capable of exhibiting excellent lubrication, chipping resistance and resistance to thermoplastic deformation in wet intermittent cutting of a highly hard material and keeping excellent finishing accuracy over long-term use. SOLUTION: The surface-coated cutting tool comprises a tool basic body made of WC cemented carbide, TiCN-based cermet and a cBN-based very-high-pressure-sintered material and a hard coating layer made of at least one of TiN, TiCN and (Ti, Al)N layers deposition-formed on the surface of the basic body. A lubricant film made of an amorphous silicon nitride film with a thickness of 100-500 nm is formed on the outermost surface of the hard coating layer via an intermediate film made of a crystalline silicon nitride film with a thickness of 100-300 nm as needed.
