Disclosed is a lithium battery which comprises: a positive electrode that contains manganese dioxide as a positive electrode active material; a negative electrode that contains at least one substance selected from among lithium metal and lithium alloys as a negative electrode active material; a porous insulating body that is arranged between the positive electrode and the negative electrode; and an organic electrolyte. The organic electrolyte contains 0.0008-1.2% by weight of an alkyl ester of an aliphatic hydroxy carboxylic acid. The alkyl ester may be a C1-6 alkyl ester of an aliphatic hydroxy carboxylic acid having 2-7 carbon atoms, such as a 4-hydroxybutyric acid C1-4 alkyl ester. |
