PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lighting device mitigating stress of a glass bulb of a lamp, and capable of alleviating fear of break of a glass bulb. SOLUTION: The lighting device includes a metal halide lamp 6 with a glass bulb 6d sealing in a pair of electrodes 6e, 6f and a pair of bases 6i, 6j arranged at either end in an axis direction of the bulb and electrically connected with the pair of electrodes; a pair of sockets 8, 9 with a pair of socket cases 8a, 9a supporting and fixing the pair of bases and a power supply part arranged at the socket cases 8a, 9a and in contact with and electrically connected with the bases in free movement in their axis direction; a socket supporting device 10 with a pair of support arms 11, 12 supporting the pair of sockets and a support stand 15 fixing one of the support arms 12 and mounting the other 11 in free movement in a direction parallel with the bulb axis direction; a lighting device; and a lighting device body housing them.
