PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a commodity sales data processing device having a simple configuration, which quickly and easily switches between over-the-counter mode and self-checkout mode to achieve flexible payment operation according to the situation of a store. SOLUTION: The device includes a display unit 3 which is mounted on a body 2 through a mounting mechanism 7 so that its display direction can be changed, and a detection means which detects a display direction of the display unit 3 relative to the body 2. According to the detection result of the detection means, the mode is switched between a store staff mode in which a series of commercial transactions are performed through staff operation and a self-mode in which a series of commercial transactions are performed through customer operation.
