PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a medium feeding device considering stabilization of the posture of a fed medium relative to a feeding direction in feeding. SOLUTION: This medium feeding device (3) includes: a pair of feeding rollers 96 including a feeding driving roller (50) and a feeding driven roller (51); a pair of conveying rollers 71 (72, 73); medium guide routes (11, 12); a switching means (4) for switching condition between a first condition wherein the feeding driving roller and the feeding driven roller approach each other and a second condition wherein they are separated from each other. When the fed medium is fed to a downstream side by the pair of feeding rollers in the first condition, the posture of the tip of the fed medium is made to follow a linear direction (X) formed by outside contact parts of the pair of conveying rollers, and in the state that the conveying driving roller is normally rotated to pinch a tip side of the fed medium between the pair of conveying rollers, the switching means switches condition to the second condition, and the feeding driving roller is driven to normally rotate so that the fed medium follows the medium guide route.
