METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING CARBON MONOXIDE GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the purity or productivity of carbon monoxide gas from being degraded without discarding a sulfuric acid aqueous solution upon producing carbon monoxide gas by continuous dehydration of formic acid using a sulfuric acid aqueous solution. SOLUTION: Carbon monoxide gas and water are produced by dehydration of formic acid, which is continuously introduced into a heated reaction liquid containing at least a sulfuric acid aqueous solution in a reaction chamber 2. The reaction liquid is circulated between the reaction chamber 2 and a gas-liquid contact device 10 disposed in an outflow passage 6 of the carbon monoxide gas. The reaction liquid in the gas-liquid contact device 10 is heated. Water vapor to be produced by heating the reaction liquid in the reaction chamber 2 is introduced together with carbon monoxide gas into the gas-liquid contact device 10. The carbon monoxide gas is brought into contact with the reaction liquid in the gas-liquid contact device 10 in such a manner that the carbon monoxide gas introduced into the gas-liquid contact device 10 is mixed with the water vapor to be produced by heating the reaction liquid in the device 10. The carbon monoxide gas flowing out together with the water vapor from the gas-liquid contact device 10 is isolated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
