METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR PRODUCING CARBON MONOXIDE GAS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To contribute to industrial production of carbon monoxide gas by preventing formic acid gas not used in the reaction from flowing out of the reaction system upon producing carbon monoxide gas by continuous dehydration of formic acid using a sulfuric acid aqueous solution. SOLUTION: Carbon monoxide gas and water are produced by dehydration of formic acid, which is continuously introduced into a heated reaction liquid containing at least a sulfuric acid aqueous solution in a reaction chamber 2. Carbon monoxide gas together with water vapor to be produced by heating the reaction liquid and with vapor of residual formic acid is introduced into an azeotropic device 20 disposed in an outflow passage 6 of carbon monoxide gas. A boiling region of an azeotropic mixture of water and formic acid and a boiling region of single water in the downstream side thereof are induced inside the azeotropic device 20 by heating the azeotropic device 20 and by supplying water to the device 20. The carbon monoxide gas flowing out together with water vapor from the azeotropic device 20 is isolated. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
