PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To properly suppress heat generation and deterioration of a radar device. SOLUTION: A traveling controller 10 is provided with: a control state determination part 34 for controlling follow-up mode and congestion follow-up mode with respect to a preceding vehicle; a transmission part 11a for executing output increase mode for increasing the output of an electromagnetic wave to be transmitted toward the traveling direction of the vehicle in the follow-up mode, and for executing output reduction mode for reducing the output of the electromagnetic wave as compared with in the output increase mode by temporarily switching it from the output increase mode at predetermined time intervals, and for executing output reduction mode in the congestion follow-up mode; and an abnormal switching determination part 36 for determining whether the switching between the output increase mode and the output reduction mode is abnormal or not, based on the result of comparing the reflection level of the reflected wave of the output increase mode with the reflection level of the reflected wave of the output reduction mode, in the follow-up mode.
