PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain undesired busy shifting from being generated when a vehicle travels on an ascending road with a carrying load amount exceeding a reference carrying load amount. SOLUTION: An ascending road determining means calculates an ascending determination correction value PNOAVA, by moderation-calculating an ascending determination value PNO, using moderation coefficients KA, KB, and updates the moderation coefficients KA, KB, in response to the ascending determination correction value PNOAVA, and the degree of reduction is thereby moderated by moderation even when a driver returns an acceleration pedal to reduce the ascending determination value PNO, when the vehicle travels on the ascending road with the carrying load amount exceeding the reference carrying load amount. Uncomfortable feeling of the driver is thereby reduced by making a shift characteristic for a low slope difficult to be selected, and by making the busy shifting generated hardly even when the driver returns the acceleration pedal, when a shifting characteristic selecting means selects any of a plurality of shifting characteristics, based on the ascending determination correction value PNOAVA.
