PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To continuously display a plurality of images in different orientations in accordance with orientations of a display apparatus and of the images. SOLUTION: An image display apparatus includes a classification means to classify a plurality of images into a landscape-oriented image and a portrait-oriented image and a detection means to detect whether the display apparatus is in the landscape orientation or in the portrait orientation. In response to a display starting instruction, continuous display of a plurality of images is controlled to display a plurality of images in one orientation, between the classified landscape-oriented and portrait-oriented images, continuously on a display means and then display a plurality of images in the other orientation continuously on the display means, and the orientation of the image to be displayed first is determined based on a detection result of the detection means upon receiving the display starting instruction.
